DINING WITH STRANGERS - RI

#19 Living In Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, RI
April 24, 2010

STRANGER: Bob Black
LOCATION: Andreas, 268 Thayer Street, Providence, RI
THEME: Dinner with a realtor/blogger

Bob Black has a lot to say.

It helps explain why the busy realtor has three blogs. It also explains why he proved to be good dinner company, because his ability to touch on any topic that comes to mind, and to do so in an engaging way, protects against any awkward pauses in conversation.

Sometimes when I meet strangers for a meal I wonder whether they’ll be reticent, with little to say, or incredibly shy about the whole situation.

With Bob, I knew I wouldn’t have that problem.

It was a Saturday night in Providence and I was running late for our interview, having taken a few wrong turns on my walk to Andreas Greek restaurant. But only a few minutes after schedule I found the place on the bustling Thayer Street. “Bustling” seems like a throwaway word to describe an area, but it’s perfect to describe the scene. The pavements were crowded, every restaurant and bar overflowing, and most people having a good time.

The Decision to pay points or not..

|

When taking out a mortgage borrowers are often presented with the option of paying points. A point represents a payment at closing of one percent of the loan amount. In exchange for this upfront fee borrowers receive a reduction in their interest rate, typically around ¼ percent.

Thoughtful Sellers

What does a buyer really know about the home they're buying? Sure, inspections are done and you learn about any structural or safety issues. But when you're buying a home you're not just buying the structure and land, but you're also buying the neighbors, the trash collectors, the mail carrier and so on.
I know you have a lot to think about when selling your home, but after you go into contract, there is usually period of several weeks before you close. Why not take a moment while your sale is pending to make the transition easier for the people buying it? It's helpful to leave a list behind for the new owners with neighborhood info. It will take you 5 minutes, and will make life so much easier for them.
