Much like it’s neighboring towns in Kent County, Coventry offers a wide range of outdoor activities. The biggest attraction is the “Trestle Trail” or Washington Secondary Bike Path. This 19-mile bike path stretches from Cranston to the edges of Coventry and nearby Connecticut. Walkers and wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy this picturesque facility, which is easily accessed and provides a great location for casual exercise throughout the year.
One very popular area to buy a home in Coventry (and visit for recreation activities) is Johnson’s Pond. At 659 acres of fresh water, with an average depth of 19 ft., it’s one of RI’s best spots for swimming, fishing, and more.
Much like the rest of western Rhode Island, West Greenwich is largely made up of forests, farms and natural landscapes, so the area is rich with outdoor recreation opportunities. It’s home to several nature preserves, state parks, wildlife refuges, and freshwater ponds.
By far the largest outdoor recreation spot in West Greenwich at 8,319 acres. Here you’ll find fishing, numerous nature trails, and hunting opportunities if you’re licensed. There is also a freshwater quarry open for swimming!

Coventry residents have a few go-to spots for their essential shopping and grocery needs. The Centre of New England, Coventry Crossing, and Coventry Shoppers Park plazas house businesses such as Walmart, BJs, Home Depot, Stop & Shop, and Dave's Marketplace.
If you like supporting small businesses, there are a handful near the center of town, including Krafty Sisters, Porridge Pot, Endeavors and More, Tom's Market, and Bead Sting.
You may notice that East Greenwich is a little more refined than its neighbors. Here, it’s all about the small, local shops and makers who specialize in niches — jewelry, fashion, furniture, etc... Yet, if you’re looking for the necessities or an all-in-one shopping mall, just follow Route 2 a few miles north into Warwick. EG even offers a boutique pet treats shop and designer wedding gowns. Window shopping on Main Street is the main attraction on its own!
The The Mishnock area of West Greenwich and lower-south Coventry are the shopping spots for residents. There are a few small business retailers and specialty shops around town, such as Leyden’s Winery and Tree Shop, Gordon’s Gourmet or Piecing With Poppers. Most residents, however, make the short trip into Coventry or Warwick for bulk shopping.
Warwick is locally-known as the “Retail Capital of Rhode Island” for a reason. There are a ton of options here, whether you’re looking for major retailers or local shops. Take a trip down Route 2 and you’ll find dozens of shopping plazas, Warwick Mall, Rhode Island Mall, Bald Hill Road Shopping Plaza and more!
West Warwick isn’t known for small business retail, but there are places in the downtown area where you’ll find local purveyors. Covering the “essentials” is easy for residents because of the close proximity to Route 2. This area of Warwick is known as the “retail capital,” with more than four miles of shopping plazas, plus the Rhode Island and Warwick Malls.

Nearby Cranston and East Greenwich may steal the limelight for local dining, but Warwick’s food scene is nothing to scoff at. There are plenty of choices beyond the “chain restaurants” along Bald Hill Road - many of which are highly rated among local foodies in RI.
At nearly 50 sq. miles, Warwick has a lot of space and opportunity for recreation. Beaches, public parks, golf courses, historic villages, and fun annual festivals are plentiful in this city. Some might even say Warwick residents are a little spoiled because of their easy access to Goddard Park and RI tourism favorites like the Warwick Neck Lighthouse.

The main shopping attraction in Cranston is Garden City Center and Chapel View where you can find everything from apparel to upscale groceries to top-notch restaurants all in one place! Cranston is also home to many small business shopping districts, such as Rolfe Square and Pawtuxet Village.
Take a quick trip over to the city line to Warwick to visit the Rhode Island Mall or Warwick Mall.
Like to get out on-the-town? Take a long stroll down the Washington Secondary Bike Path (the longest in the state at 19 miles) or explore the museums in Roger Williams Park Zoo. Cranston also has community attractions like Confreda Greenhouses and Farms, where you can visit the local farmer’s market. Or bring the family to Mulligan’s Island for mini golf, driving ranges, batting cages and more!
435 acres of public access land offering a variety of recreational and educational activities for visitors. You have more than five miles of walking paths throughout the wooded grounds, each wrapping around the three ponds inside the park. The park includes public gardens, tennis courts, ball fields, playgrounds, public art installations. Inside you’ll find the Museum of Natural History, the Botanical Center, the Temple to Music, and the Casino.
Also called the “Trestle Trail”, Washington Secondary Bike Path is a 19-mile path extending from Cranston to the edges of Coventry and Connecticut. It’s picturesque, easily accessed at multiple points, and provides residents a great way for casual exercise throughout the year.
A very popular sports & recreation spot for locals. The facility is tropical themed and offers fun activities like mini golf, batting cages, pitch & putt, volleyball, and driving ranges. Your kids can join the golf academy or summer camps as well, where they can get professional instruction.
Great place to visit for fresh produce, meat, and prepared gourmet foods. Confreda is especially known for its seasonal sweet corn and homemade pies. You can buy different plants, soil, and compost here as well. It’s a family-owned farm and business and the people here are always friendly!
A small, 12-acre lake within Meshanticut State Park. It’s a pleasant little lake and a good place to take children for a short paddle on very protected and easy waters. There is a public boat launch for hand-carried boats, canoes, and kayaks. Or you can take a leisurely stroll around their three-quarter-mile shaded walking path.
A seasonal in-ground public pool with lifeguards on-duty. It’s a very popular spot for kids, always kept clean, and affordable for Cranston residents ($3.00 for a day pass). The pool is enormous and accommodates hundreds of people during the busy season, and there are basketball courts and ball fields for public use.
It’s very easy to navigate in and around Cranston. Two major highways run through the center of Cranston (I-95 & I-295) which lead into Providence or the northern suburbs of the city. Most areas of Cranston are within a 10 – 15 minute drive to T.F. Green Airport. Travelling through the center of Cranston, you have Route 2 and Route 5 — both of which are lined with shopping, restaurants, and recreation spots. Both streets lead into Lower South Providence and connect to I-95 and I-295 via the Route 37 connector.
Cranston is unique because it has all three types of housing situations — urban, suburban, and rural. Transportation methods vary depending on what neighborhood you live in. For instance, Western Cranston — which is everything west of I-295 and Route 37 — is more rural than the rest of the city. Route 51 and Route 12 are the main roads connecting this portion of the city to Scituate and West Warwick. RIPTA bus access is limited here compared to areas closer to Garden City or Pawtuxet Village. And it’s a little more “out of the way” if you’re riding a bike or walking.

You will find a vibrant and diverse food scene that offers something for everyone in Providence County. The city of Providence is known for its creative chefs, innovative cuisine, and a variety of international flavors. However, there is so much more to the food scene in this county.
This county offers a dynamic and exciting food scene that caters to all tastes and preferences. From classic New England seafood to international flavors and creative farm-to-table cuisine, there's something for everyone. Here are a few favorites from each of the many communities within Providence county.
In 2012, Travel & Leisure Magazine rated Providence as the “#1 Food City” in the United States. A few restaurants in particular, such as Oberlin and North, have been recognized by Bon Appetit Magazine and other publications as top-rated across the U.S.
There are too many dining and bar options in Providence to list, but here are a few “hotspot” neighborhoods where you’ll find more than enough food & drink fun.
This county offers a dynamic and exciting food scene that caters to all tastes and preferences. Here are a few favorites from each of the many communities within Providence county.
The restaurant scene in Central Falls truly highlights the diversity of the city. Here you’ll find some of the most authentic ethnic spots in the Providence metro area. It’s a hot-spot for Latin restaurants of all kinds, from Colombian to Salvadoran to Mexican.
As the third largest city in Rhode Island, Cranston has one of the hottest dining scenes in the state. East Providence has quite a large selection of restaurants and bars to choose from. Whether you’re looking for ethnic food, American fare, or anything in-between. There are also nightclubs and entertainment venues many Rhode Islanders travel to visit. Take a look out our list below for highlighted spots.
The restaurant scene in Foster is mainly country-style dining with a few options for authentic Italian, Traditional American, and lunch spots.
Most of Glocester’s dining spots are found along Route 44, especially in the villages of Chepachet and Harmony. You have a good range of choices for a small town area, including several pizza shops, taverns, lodge-style dining, and breakfast diners.
Johnston is one of the towns around Providence that actually has its own dining scene. Due primarily to the strong Italian-American community, you’ll find excellent Italian restaurants here, plus a good range of American and ethnic foods. Besides dining on Federal Hill, the next best area to hit for authentic Italian food is Johnston. Hands down.
The dining and nightlife scene in Lincoln is largely influenced by Bally's Twin River Lincoln. People travel from all over the state (and out of state) to Twin River. And for residents, it’s a very convenient and fun way to spend a night out. If you’re looking for an award-winning dining experience, try Fred & Steve's Steak House or for something a little more relaxed, there is Wicked Good Bar & Grill.
The nice thing about living in North Providence is that you get two dining destinations at once. Providence is only minutes away, along with all of its renowned restaurants. Plus, you have plenty of options in your own neighborhood. North Providence has a fantastic selection of authentic Italian restaurants, bakeries, pizza joints, and cafes.
North Smithfield’s restaurant scene is heavily centered around the village of Slatersville (with the exception of a few standout establishments). Very popular spots include Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery and The Beef Barn. Both of these places are well-known throughout the Rhode Island “foodie scene” as must-visit destination spots. Plus, you’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafes, bakeries and more to explore in town.
Pawtucket’s dining and nightlife scene may get overshadowed by Providence, but people who live here have plenty of options (and Providence is right down the street). Hot spots for great restaurants are Mineral Spring Avenue and Newport Avenue. Or by neighborhood, you can check out places like Woodlawn (right over the Providence line) and downtown Pawtucket.
We’d be remiss not mentioning at least a few “classic” local spots! For breakfast, definitely check out Modern Diner for their historic train car restaurant and hometown atmosphere. Then stop by the Garden Grille for a vegetarian or vegan treat (don’t knock it till you try it!) And finally, grab a spot at the ever-popular Rasoi for an Indian dish you won’t believe. For the after-dinner crowd, go to Murphy’s Law to watch a sports game or shoot pool!
There are some highly-rated restaurants in Pawtuxet Village. Try The Shanty which serves seafood and pub fare. You should also visit the cafes and bakeries in the area. Here are some of our favorites.
Scituate has its local watering holes and restaurants that are worth visiting. Stop by Howards Chowder Shack during the summertime for RI-style favorites like clam chowder, fried clam bellies, and oyster po’boys. For breakfast, you’ll find Cindy’s Diner always packed and bustling. It has a nostalgic, 1950’s interior and atmosphere that adds to the great meal and service. Finally, for one of the best meals in town, definitely try the Corner Bistro for their authentic, country-style cooking.
What’s one of the highlights of living in or around Smithfield? This area has a legitimate dining scene! Between Smithfield, Lincoln, Johnston, and nearby North Providence, you have incredible options (particularly for Italian cuisine). You can find fine dining, lunch cafes, taverns, diners, delis, bakeries, and more all within a 10-mile radius.
Woonsocket is the center of attention for dining and nightlife in the northern part of Rhode Island and surrounding Massachusetts towns. You’ll find many different styles of food & drink along the Blackstone River and historic downtown district. Three restaurants in particular have been serving Woonsocket for decades (or longer!) — Patriots Diner, River Falls Restaurant, and Chan’s Fine Oriental Cuisine. If you’re thinking about moving to the area and want to get a feel for the locals or see a good show, these are the places to explore, hang out, and meet people.
Warren is quickly becoming one of Rhode Island’s “foodie destinations.” In the downtown and Water Street districts, you have both fine dining and casual choices, plus excellent lunch spots and cafes along Main Street. Barrington is not exactly a nightlife “destination” among the East Bay. In fact, until 2011, Barrington was the only “dry” town in Rhode Island (alcohol sales were prohibited outside of restaurants). That said, Barrington does have some great places to eat. And there are plenty of bars in surrounding towns, including Warren, Bristol, Seekonk, and East Providence.

Cranston has a geographical area of 28.2 square miles.

Unlike Chapel View or Garden City Center, here you’ll find all local people running local businesses with hand-crafted and/specialty products. Rolfe Square had several ethnic marketplaces, cool “neighborhood” spots like Bettola Pizza Parlor, and Dave’s Market (a popular locally-owned food mart).
